RCMP investigate death on Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation

The Saskatchewan RCMP is investigating a suspicious death on Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation. 

In the early hours of Saturday morning, Rosthern RCMP officers responded to a “weapons incident” at a residence on Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation, located about 90 kilometres north of Saskatoon and 25 kilometres north of Rosthern.

When officers arrived, they found that a 28-year-old man had been shot and injured when “a firearm was discharged inside the residence.”

Though first responders provided medical assistance, the man died shortly after.

Now, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes, RCMP General Investigation officers from Prince Albert and Saskatoon, the RCMP Forensic Identification Section, Rosthern RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are investigating.

The RCMP says there is “no increased risk to public safety” at this time.
